ICTMT series

The ICTMT conference series is unique in bringing together lecturers, teachers, educators, curriculum designers, mathematics education researchers, learning technologists, and educational software designers – all who share an interest in improving the quality of teaching and learning. Through its character, the conference provides a forum for researchers and practitioners in this field to discuss and share best practices, research approaches and results, theoretical know-how, innovation, and perspectives on educational technologies and their impact on the teaching and learning of mathematics.

This biennial conference began in Birmingham, UK, in 1993, under the influential enterprise of Bert Waits from Ohio State University. The 15th conference was held by the Danish School of Education, Aarhus University, in Copenhagen, Denmark, in 2021 (ICTMT 15 website).

Conference Programme (click here)

The ICTMT 16 programme starts on Wednesday 7th June 2023 and ends on Saturday 10th June 2023. The programme includes scientific activities (plenary lectures, paper presentations, poster sessions and workshops) and social arrangements (activities and conference dinner).

Topics (click here)

The ICTMT 16 adopts a transformational approach to Mathematics Education and welcomes perspectives which try to make sense of mathematics education in the era of intense, unpredictable, complex, ill-defined societal and digital transformation.

Under this frame, the conference will be organized in the following four main topics:

1. Designing technology for a transforming society

2. Making sense of educational practice in a transforming society.

3. Fostering mathematical collaboration and communication.

4. Understanding the value of Analytics and AI in Mathematics Education.

Augmented reality: just a big name or a technology that really does promote mathematical thinking?

Osama Swidan, Ben Gurion University of the Negev

Creating the most impactful educational technologies for mathematics education: The importance of collaboration.

Alison Clark Wilson, UCL-Knowledge Lab

Aesthetising mathematics education research.

Call for Submissions (click here)

As part of the scientific programme, submissions of proposals for papers, posters and workshops are welcome in the conference topics.

We invite researchers in mathematics education to submit research papers, posters and workshop proposals, related to the focus of the conference and to at least one of the conference’s four themes.

We also invite teachers that are interested in presenting and discussing with colleagues and academic researchers, best practices for teaching mathematics with the use of digital media, to submit their best practice proposals, in relation to the four themes of the conference.

The conference's official language is English.

Research Papers: Research papers may present research outcomes, research in progress, innovative practices, theoretical developments, reports on the use of resources and experiences, in relation with any of the topics of the conference.

Posters: Poster proposals should illustrate original work around concepts, ideas and projects in progress addressing any of the topic of the conference.

Workshops: Proposals for workshops should focus on hands-on experience with the exploitation of digital tools and emerging technologies. The workshop rationale is for participants to explore such digital tools and discuss ways of exploiting them on teaching-learning of Mathematics and on Mathematics’ Education in general.
