Airport Arrival


Τhere are 2 different ways to arrive in Trikala. Either from Athens (Athens International Airport “Eleftherios Venizelos”) or from Thessaloniki (Thessaloniki Airport Makedonia).

 

📍From Athens (Athens International Airport “Eleftherios Venizelos”), you have 3 ways to travel to Trikala:


1. Athens-Trikala by bus from KTEL Liosion Intercity Bus Station (Liosion Street 260, Kato Patisia - https://liosionktelbus.gr):

Α. To get to KTEL Liosion Intercity Bus Station from the airport:

            •  By X93 Bus from the airport straight to KTEL Liosion Station - cost 5,50€, duration approximately 1h 15min.
            • By Metro, take M3 (blue) line towards Dimotiko Theatro, change at Monastiraki Station, and take M1 (green) line towards Kifisia and disembark at Kato Patisia Station. From there, 800m walking distance – cost 9€, duration approximately 1h 30min.
            • By taxi – cost approximately 50€, duration approximately 45 min.

 

Β. From KTEL Liosion Intercity Bus Station to Trikala: There are 5-6 bus lines per day (https://ktel-trikala.gr/en/summer-itineraries/from-to-athens-therina/). Cost: from 31€ (https://ktel-trikala.gr/en/informations/ticket-prices/), duration approximately 4h 15min.

2. Athens-Trikala by train from the Athens Railway “Larissa Station” (https://www.hellenictrain.gr/en/larissa-station-or-athens-railway-station)

Α. To get to Athens Railway “Larissa Station” from the airport:

            • By Metro, take M3 (blue) line towards Dimotiko Theatro, change at Monastiraki Station, and take M2 (red) line towards Anthoupoli and disembark at Larissa Station – cost 9€, duration approximately 1h.
            • By taxi – cost approximately 50€, duration approximately 45 min.

 

Β. From Athens Railway “Larissa Station” to Trikala: At the moment, there are 4 train lines per day, but due to maintenance works there is a bus connection from Paleofarsalos to Trikala. Hopefully, this technical issue will be solved till July 2026. Cost 12-18€ (bus connection included), duration approximately 4h 10min (Athens-Paleofarsalos by train 2h 50min & Paleofarsalos-Trikala by bus 1h 20min).

3. Athens-Trikala by car from Athens International Airport “Eleftherios Venizelos”, cost depends on the tolls / vehicle rental / fuel, duration approximately 3h 30min.

 

📍 From Thessaloniki (Thessaloniki Airport Makedonia), you have 3 ways to travel to Trikala:


1. Thessaloniki-Trikala by bus from KTEL Makedonia Intercity Bus Station (Giannitson street 244, Thessaloniki - https://www.ktelmacedonia.gr/en/home/list/):

Α. To get to KTEL Intercity Bus Station Makedonia from the airport:

            • By X1 Bus from the airport straight to KTEL Makedonia Station - cost 2€, duration approximately 1h 10min.
            • By taxi – cost 30-40€, duration approximately 25 min.

 

Β. From KTEL Makedonia Intercity Bus Station to Trikala: There are 4-6 bus lines per day (https://ktelmacedonia.gr/en/routes/tid=34). Cost: approximately 20€, duration approximately 2h 25min.

2. Thessaloniki-Trikala by train from Thessaloniki New Railway Station (https://www.hellenictrain.gr/en)

Α. To get to Thessaloniki New Railway Station from the airport:

            • By X1 Bus from the airport straight to Thessaloniki New Railway Station - cost 2€, duration approximately 50min.
            • By taxi – cost 30-35€, duration approximately 25 min.

 

Β. From Thessaloniki New Railway Station to Trikala: At the moment, there are 4 train lines per day, but due to maintenance works there is a bus connection from Paleofarsalos to Trikala. Hopefully, this technical issue will be solved till July 2026. Cost 9-14€ (bus connection included), duration approximately 5h 15min (Thessaloniki-Paleofarsalos by train 2h 3min & Paleofarsalos-Trikala by bus 1h 20min).

3. Thessaloniki-Trikala by car from Thessaloniki Airport Makedonia, cost depends on the tolls / vehicle rental / fuel, duration approximately 2h 50min.
