Symposium sessions will be held at the Tsitsani Museum, Trikala.

The Vassilis Tsitsanis Research Center – Museum is housed in the former Trikala prison, by the Lithaios River, and is dedicated to the life and work of the legendary Greek composer and lyricist. Visitors can explore rare photographs, musical instruments, personal items, original recordings, and audiovisual material that highlight Tsitsanis’ immense contribution to Greek music.

The museum also showcases artifacts from the old prison and hosts a recording studio, library, and event hall, making it not only a museum but also a hub of research and creativity. An impressive 18 sq.m. mosaic of Vassilis Tsitsanis adorns the western façade, created by local artists in 2019.

The complex further includes the historic Twin Ottoman Bath, the restored chapel of Saint Eleftherios, and a welcoming café-bistro, offering guests a complete cultural experience in the heart of Trikala.

Vassilis Tsitsanis, one of Greece’s greatest popular music creators, was born in Trikala to parents from Epirus. His first musical influences came from his father’s mandolin, the klephtika songs of his homeland, and Byzantine chants. At the age of 11, he inherited his father’s instrument—already transformed into a bouzouki—which would mark the beginning of his musical journey.
