Igor Yanovich (Universität Tübingen), Building language family trees with computational tools

In the recent two decades, it has become common to obtain language-family trees using computational methods from biostatistics. Applying those methods in practice requires technical expertise, to acquire which one roughly needs to pass a semester-long class. But fortunately, building a basic understanding of such work and learning what to look for in the often complicated technical results is a much easier task. This masterclass aims to provide you with the necessary knowledge needed to engage with computationally built trees in the current literature and to appreciate both their limitations and their strengths.
