Guide to transportation in Athens

Whether you are coming in Greece from Europe or beyond, the most convenient and quick way to get to Athens is by plane.

Eleftherios Venizelos International Airport is located in Athens and is easily accessible by bus, metro, taxi, or Uber.

By bus: A single ticket from the airport to the city center costs €5.50. You can take the bus line X95 to Syntagma Square, which runs all day and night.

Bus or metro tickets can be purchased on several points of sale. When boarding the vehicle, you can also make a contactless payment with a credit card or your phone.

By metro: Metro line n.3 (blue line) may be reached immediately after exiting the airport. The trip to the city center (Syntagma Square) costs €9 and takes approximately 35-40 minutes.  In case you need it, the metro station "Syntagma Square" connects to metro line n.2 (red line) towards the Acropolis, Koukaki area, or the South of Athens (near the beach).

By taxi/Uber: In Athens, yellow vehicles are available for personal journeys. These yellow vans known as "Taxi" can be found throughout the city and at the airport. It may be more expensive as an option, but it is beneficial if you travel in groups of three or four. The Uber app is also available.

Exploring Athens is simple. You could walk around the city center, take the bus or the metro. Check the stations on the metro line map below and choose between a single ticket, a 24-hour ticket, a 3-day ticket, or a 5-day ticket.
