MANY THANKS TO ALL PARTICIPANTS!

From Wednesday, March 19, 2025, to Friday, March 21, 2025, the Athens Cosmic Ray Group hosted the international meeting titled NMDB Meeting 2025: Cosmic Ray Studies with Neutron Detectors, in celebration of the 25th anniversary of the continuous operation of the Athens Neutron Monitor Station. 71 participants, including students, scientists, researchers, distinguished professors, and neutron monitor technicians, representing 24 countries and 34 different universities and institutions attended the meeting. Over 40 papers (oral presentations and e-posters) were presented throughout the event.

During this meeting the neutron monitor community had the opportunity to exchange research findings, discuss the current status of neutron monitor stations, and deliberate on future developments. Special attention was given to the intense solar, interplanetary, and geomagnetic events of 2024. Furthermore, the meeting underscored the significance of long-term cosmic ray intensity measurements, the NMDB’s ongoing upgrades and expansion to include new neutron measurements. Other scientific initiatives, such as the High Efficiency Neutron Spectrometry Array (HENSA) and the development of new applications was also emphasized.

The presence and active participation of representatives from the American National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA), who presented GOES satellite measurements, and from the European Space Agency (ESA), who presented the neutron monitor-related services, were highly appreciated. The scientific community also extended a warm welcome to three new neutron monitors from Hawaii, Hungary, and Thailand, who will soon join the NMDB as active members.
