Dr. Kathleen Rest, PhD, MPA Kathleen Rest, a Senior Fellow at the Boston University Institute for Global Sustainability (IGS) and former Executive Director of the Union of Concerned Scientists (UCS), oversaw UCS’s work on clean energy and transportation, climate change, sustainable agriculture, global security, and protecting the integrity of science in public policy. With expertise in public policy, public and environmental health, and worker health and safety, Rest has worked in government, academia, and the nonprofit sector. Prior to joining UCS, she served as the Acting Director of the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) in the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and as a faculty member in several medical schools, including the University of Massachusetts Medical School. She has international experience as a researcher and advisor on occupational and environmental health issues, served on several National Academy of Medicine Committees, and authored numerous articles and book chapters on occupational and environmental health issues. Rest holds a PhD in health policy from Boston University and a MPA from the University of Arizona.
